This page is designed by the Hudson River Center to provide New York State adult, family, and alternative education program administrators with up-to-date policy information, funding alerts, and resources available for program improvement and development. The Hudson River Center, in collaboration with the NYS Education Department, has developed a Guide for Managers of Adult Education Programs. We are inviting the participation of those involved with adult education to offer suggestions and recommendations for the guide. The content outline for the document and each of its ten sections can be accessed by clicking above.
Another important resource for administrators is Workforce Development in New York State where you can find information about the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) and the One-Stop Operating System (OSOS). Speaking of WIA, formal testimony entitled Workforce Investment Act: Implementation Status and the Integration of TANF Services was presented to the US House of Representatives by the General Accounting Office on June 29. A thorough overview of WIA implementation focusing on the integration of welfare services into one-stop employment centers is available for download. And the Literacy Assistance Center’s recent Literacy Update has an article entitled Myths and Realities of the Workforce Investment Act for more information.
A new website, NRS Online, provides administrators with reference material and training related to the guidelines of NRS. Measures and methods, data collection, reporting, and the use of data necessary for implementing the NRS are all available on the site. The main uses of NRS Online are as an information base for adult educators and others who wish to obtain information on the NRS accountability system and as a training vehicle that trainers and professional developers can use to train instructors, administrators, and others in need of a more in-depth understanding of the NRS. The training course has a self-certification component.
